How it all started
Babybel® has a rich history. The big version was launched in France in 1952, breaking cheese consumption habits and defying conventions with its playful red wax cover.
In 1977, the miniaturised version of Babybel® saw the light. The individual cheese portions feature the great taste of Babybel® and its iconic wax cover, but in a handy snack size for on-the-go enjoyment.
The international love for the brand grew when Babybel® embarked on US shores, followed by a swift entry into new markets in Europe, Asia and Africa. So began the delicious world story of Babybel®, which is evolving to keep pace with what consumers want today. The popular brand is now sold in 50 countries across the globe.

Working towards more sustainable and responsible production
Babybel® is 98% milk. Its delicious taste is influenced by the high quality of milk used in the production process. The Bel Group partners with farmers to ensure this high quality is maintained and sustainable production is kept to the fore.
For example, in France we use milk sourced from nearly 700 partner farms located in western France, near our production site. These farmers are all members of the ABPO farming association. In 2022, we agreed a higher milk price and more sustainable farming practices with the ABPO, pursuing our transition to low-carbon milk.
The farmers we work with have all signed our charter of good farming practices. The cows that produce our milk graze on open pastures at least 150 days a year. Their diet is balanced and GMO-free.
We have also taken many steps to make our Babybel® packaging more environmentally friendly.
